Liquid carryover can damage a VRU compressor, increase vibration and make the vapor recovery system unstable. The diagnosis should cover condensation, inlet separation, drain operation, level control and operating changes in the tank or terminal.
Checks for Liquid Carryover
- Confirm separator level and high-level alarm operation
- Check drains, traps and condensate return routes
- Review vapor temperature and pressure drop before the compressor
- Inspect demister, inlet filter and separator internals
- Compare carryover events with loading, tank breathing and weather conditions
Repair and Prevention
Do not bypass a high-level trip to keep the compressor running. Provide separator drawings, liquid composition, operating pressure, temperature, compressor model and alarm history for a replacement or modification review. See VRU troubleshooting and VRU spare parts service.
