How a rotary concentrator + thermal oxidizer system works
- Adsorption – Large-volume, low-concentration exhaust passes through the rotating zeolite (or activated carbon) concentrator wheel, where VOCs are adsorbed and clean air is discharged.
- Desorption – A small hot-air stream regenerates the rotor, producing a concentrated VOC stream, typically 5-15 times the inlet concentration.
- Oxidation – The concentrated stream is destroyed in the thermal or catalytic oxidizer at high temperature.
- Recovery – Heat from the oxidizer can support rotor regeneration and preheating, reducing total fuel use.
Why combine a concentrator with a thermal oxidizer?
For large airflow with low VOC concentration, treating the full stream in an oxidizer requires a large, fuel-hungry system. The concentrator reduces the volume to the oxidizer by 10-20x, allowing a smaller oxidizer, lower capital cost and reduced operating energy while maintaining high destruction efficiency.
